EU implements 70 million euro educational programs in Armenia - Ambassador Maragos

YEREVAN, May 8. /ARKA/. The portfolio of educational programs implemented by the European Union in Armenia amounts to more than 70 million euros, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vasilis Maragos said.

Speaking at the Armenia-EU Education Dialogue forum in Yerevan on Tuesday Ambassador Maragos noted that the strategic cooperation between the EU and Armenia in the field of education was launched in 2019 through a comprehensive political dialog.

He emphasized that the EU supports the implementation of the recently approved Strategy for the Development of Armenia's Education Sector until 2030, which envisages important reforms.

These include the establishment of STEM-science laboratories in different regions and the introduction of curricula, the construction of schools and the development of the school management system, development of principles for the appointment of principals, the possibility of vocational guidance, research towards a green economy and the evaluation of school results.

"The EU also supports non-formal education. We are already implementing many projects in this field through the TUMO Center and the SOAF Foundation. In Syunik, in order to strengthen the sustainability of this region, we are going to establish 2 SOAF centers with a total investment of about 20 million euros," Maragos said.

The Ambassador also stated that broadly speaking, investments in human capital are necessary for Armenia's competitiveness and sustainability, for the diversification of the economy, as well as for the promotion of the work and innovation of higher education institutions.

"The policy dialogue on education reforms brings together stakeholders and partners to maximize joint efforts," Maragos said.

The Armenia-EU Education Dialogue Forum was held within the framework of the policy dialog platform of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, the offices of the European Union and UNICEF in Armenia. -0-
