Former investigator detained on charges of bribery

Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) has detained a former officer of the Investigative Committee, who worked in the town of Abovyan in Kotayk province, who is suspected of demanding and receiving $40,000 bribe from a defendant’s mother in return for replacing the murder charge with another, softer criminal code article.

YEREVAN, May 20. /ARKA/. Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) has detained a former officer of the Investigative Committee, who worked in the town of Abovyan in Kotayk province, who is suspected of demanding and receiving $40,000 bribe from a defendant’s mother in return for replacing the murder charge with another, softer criminal code article.
The NSS said the investigator, identified as S.S. was involved also in another criminal case when he demanded and received a bribe of $500 from a defendant’s father for certain actions in favor of the accused.
The NSS said the case was referred to the Anticorruption Committee. According to it, another person was detained with SS. -0-
