Government extends amnesty-for-cash scheme for military dodgers
YEREVAN, February 26. / ARKA /. The Armenian government on Thursday has extended the validity of a law that allows male citizens who have dodged compulsory military service for years to buy amnesty.

The process is handled by a high-level commission headed by defense minister. The law first passed in 2004 enables draft dodgers aged 27 and older to avoid criminal prosecution in return for a fee depending on the number of years spent on the run.

Diaspora minister Hranush Hakobyan said the law applies to citizens who turned 27 before December 31, 2014.

The largest payment is 1.8 million drams ($3,760) per person. The law envisages payment exemptions for those men whose father or brother was killed while on military duty and who have three or more children.-0-
