YEREVAN, September 17. /ARKA/. Residents of a building in Yerevan that was partly destroyed by a natural gas explosion in late August will be given certificates to buy new housing, chairman of the Urban Development Committee Armen Ghularyan told a cabinet session today.
One person was killed and two others were injured in the explosion, which destroyed 12 apartments. The government made a decision today to release 182 million drams for the purchase of housing.
"As a result of the incident, 12 apartments were collapsed and residents were temporarily resettled in various houses until the problem was resolved. The prime minister proposed that the residents be provided with financial assistance in the form of certificates for the purchase of housing," Ghularyan said.
According to him, the amount of assistance was determined on the basis of the data of the Cadastre Committee - 333,000 drams per square meter.
He noted that assistance will be provided only to apartment owners. The beneficiaries can purchase an apartment or a private house from any individual or legal entity.
The residents can buy a home less than the stipulated cost, and use the remaining amount at their discretion, and when buying a more expensive home, they will have to cover the difference.
For his part, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation and still has to identify the reasons for the collapse.
"The main thing is that we have promptly solved the problem within a month after the incident," Pashinyan said. He noted that on his instructions on the day of the collapse, all the residents were relocated to hotels, and a week later the government paid to rent apartments for them in the same area.
