YEREVAN, August 22. /ARKA/. The Armenian government decided today to release AMD 77.3 million to ensure the implementation of a program designed to compensate for nannies' salaries.

"The goal of the program is to provide assistance to persons on leave to care for children under 3 years old, in case of returning to work before the child is 2 years old, to organize parallel work to care for the child," said Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Zaruhi Batoyan.

She said that 200 beneficiaries were supposed to be included in this program last year, however, a high interest in it led to the fact that the total number increased to 472 people. "This year we have provided financing for another 400 beneficiaries," said Batoyan.

On December 6, 2017, the Armenian Parliament approved amendments and additions to the Law on Employment, which provide for the possibility of providing state support to young mothers when hiring a nanny for a child under two years of age.

According to the law, the state is ready to pay 50% of the nanny’s salary, but this amount should not exceed the minimum wage in the country - 55 thousand drams. In fact, if the nanny’s salary is 110 thousand drams, the state will pay 55 thousand drams, and the rest will be paid by the parent. Taxes are paid either from  the salary, or they are paid separately by the parents.

On average, 13 thousand mothers are annually in Armenia on maternity leave for children under 2 years old. ($ 1 - 475.94 dram) -0-
