YEREVAN, December 4. /ARKA/. As of December 4, 2019 the 22nd annual telethon held by Hayastan Pan-Armenian charity, broadcast from Yerevan and Los Angeles, USA, has raised $10,235,847 million as donations and promises, the Fund’s executive director Haykak Arshamyan said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The telethon was held on November 28 under the slogan "I love my Armenia: life-giving water and sunshine for the communities." The raised funds will be used to implement drinking water  and solar energy projects in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), as well as in three regions of Armenia - Tavush, Lori and Shirak. The beneficiaries will be more than 100 communities.

Arshamyan said donations are still being collected, and the final results of the telethon will be announced before the end of the year. According to him, the most active were citizens of Armenia and Artsakh, who donated about $1.9 million as well as Armenians in the USA and France.

Overall, donations and promises were made by 9,644 Armenian citizens, by 3700 people more than in the previous telethon. Arshamyan  said the largest donations -$2.9 million- were made by Armenians in France. Armenians in Germany donated 72,704 euros, Armenians in Greece - a little more than 26 thousand euros, those in Switzerland - 20 thousand dollars. About 320 thousand dollars were donated by Armenians in the UK.

The largest individual donation was made by Russian-Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan -$1.5 million. Another $200,000 was contributed by Samvel Aleksanyan, one of Armenia’s wealthiest businessmen.

"The declared figures and real donations may diverge significantly, and by the end of the year, the total amount may significantly exceed the preliminary results," Arshamyan said.

The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund was founded by presidential decree in 1992. Its mission is to unite Armenians in Armenia and overseas to overcome the country’s difficulties and to help establish sustainable development in Armenia and Artsakh.

Hayastan’s Board of Trustees is headed by Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian. It comprises also Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, other senior Armenian state officials, head of the Armenian Church Catholicos Karekin II as well as prominent members of Armenian communities around the world. -0-
