YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. A shooting incident reported late Tuesday in Armenia's Armavir region resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left one person injured.

According to Narek Sargsyan, the press secretary for the Minister of Internal Affairs, police received a notification yesterday at approximately 11:50 PM regarding gunfire on the Yerevan Highway in the village of Merdzavan within the Armavir region.

"The injured individual is currently hospitalized. One of the deceased is Volodya Grigoryan, the head of the Parakar community, while the other is our colleague, Karen Abrahamyan, an officer with the Ararat criminal police. He was off duty; he was merely a friend of Volodya Grigoryan, and they were together at the time of the incident," stated Narek Sargsyan, who also mentioned that the assailant has fled the scene.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has condemned the killings.

"I unequivocally condemn the audacious armed attack that occurred in the village of Merdzavan, which led to the deaths of the community leader and his friend. The condition of the other victim is critically serious. I extend my condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, as well as to the cherished residents of the village. I wish a swift recovery to the injured man," he expressed on his Facebook page.

Pashinyan underscored that Armenian law enforcement agencies are required to swiftly identify all individuals involved in this crime.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated by the Armavir Department of the Investigative Committee concerning the murders, as reported to the Public Television of Armenia by the Investigative Committee.-0-
