Incarcerated foreign nationals in Armenia may ask for asylum

Armenia’s parliament has passed today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to the Criminal Procedures Code and the Law "On the detained and arrested persons."

YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. Armenia’s parliament has passed today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to the Criminal Procedures Code and the Law "On the detained and arrested persons."
According to First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development Vache Terteryan, the amendments provide that foreign nationals or stateless persons, incarcerated in Armenia, may apply for asylum.
"The amendments allow convicted, detained and arrested foreign nationals or stateless citizens to apply for the status of persons seeking asylum", - Terteryan said.
According to the amendments to the law "On refugees and persons seeking refuge,' this status for children can be sought not only by parents, but also trustees and guardians. -0-
