Inflation calculation doesn’t reflect reality in Armenia -expert
YEREVAN, August 8. /ARKA/. Inflation calculations do not actually reflect the reality, the chief of Armenian Consumers’ Association Armen Poghosyan said Tuesday.

“Armenia reported quite low price increase, but it doesn’t reflect the matter reality,” he told journalists.

According to Mr. Poghosyan, price increase is calculated through elaborating 800 brands of goods and services. However, the fact that the majority of people use the whole list of 800 brands either seldom or don’t use it at all is not heeded, he added.

That is why the chief of Consumers’ Association suggests that the experts should calculate inflation through elaborating 20-25 brands of vitally important goods and services, such as bread, dairy products, transport and clothes.

Only in this case, it will be possible to give an accurate assessment to inflation, he noted.

According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, June inflation in Armenia rose by 0.7% from a year earlier. At the same time, consumer price index reported 102.2% in Jan-June from the same period last year, including provisions ( also alcohol and tobacco)- 101.8%, non-food goods- 103.9%, and service tariffs- 102%. -0-
