Kerobyan: People in Armenia have become better off

YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. Armenia's Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan told journalists on Wednesday that people in Armenia today live better than a year ago.

In a comment on a journalist's claim that poverty continues to be high amid double-digit economic growth, recorded in 2022, the minister said that "people live no worse today."

"People on average live incomparably better than they did a year ago. That's what economic growth shows. Given the inclusiveness that our economic growth has, we can say that most people are living better. We can even address the double-digit unemployment rate," he said.

According to Kerobyan, about 37,000 new legal entities opened in the country last year, 12,000 of which were CJSCs or LLCs, and the vast majority of companies reported unprecedented growth in turnover.

He also stressed that in 2022 Armenia recorded an economic activity of 14.2 percent, the highest in the past 15 years.

"Per capita GDP has also grown from about $4,627 to $6,700 to $6,800. This means we're on par with countries like Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have to make sure that the institutions operating in our country progress so that we become a country with a better infrastructure," he said.

Earlier this year Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the number of officially registered jobs hit a new record in December 2022 growing by 44,900 from December 2021 to 704,40. Compared to May 2018, when Pashinyan came to power, the number of registered jobs surged by 156,004.

The prime minister added that the total payroll in December 2022 compared to December 2021 increased by 49.9 billion drams, while compared to May 2018 the rise amounted to 136.4 billion drams.

According to Pashinyan, the average monthly wage in December 2022 was up 53,200 drams compared to December 2021. ($1 – 395.65 drams). --0--
