Armenian law-enforcement authorities have detained a former deputy health minister V. Poghosyan on suspicion of being involved in a series of abuses at the National Center for Combating Tuberculosis.

YEREVAN, March 7. /ARKA/. Armenian law-enforcement authorities have detained a former deputy health minister V. Poghosyan on suspicion of being involved in a series of abuses at the National Center for Combating Tuberculosis. The case is initiated by the Investigation Department of the town of Abovyan.
Earlier reports said the criminal case was initiated following an audit of the Tuberculosis Control Center on the grounds of paragraph 17, part 3 of article 179 (embezzlement of property in especially large amounts) and part 1 of article 308 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
Investigation revealed numerous incidents of abuses at the Center and also the identity of the people who committed obvious financial abuses. These abuses were committed in 2014-2018.
"V. Poghosyan, who served as deputy health minister from December 2011 to November 2016 and coordinated a project for prevention of HIV / AIDS and organization of medical assistance to infected people implemented with funding from the Global Fund for HIV / AIDS Prevention and Tuberculosis Control, abused his official powers. He was detained on March 7, 2019 on suspicion of committing this crime," the investigators said. --0--
