Majority of Yerevan residents oppose paid parking price hike

A survey conducted among the residents of Armenia's capital city Yerevan by the Armenian office of the Gallup International Association has revealed that the majority were opposed to the municipality's plan to raise the price of paid parking on the streets.

YEREVAN, December 20. /ARKA/. A survey conducted among the residents of Armenia's capital city Yerevan by the Armenian office of the Gallup International Association has revealed that the majority were opposed to the municipality's plan to raise the price of paid parking on the streets.

Particularly, the municipality is seeking to raise the annual price of paid parking on red line sections from current 12,000 drams to 160, 00 drams. The city authorities want also to raise dramatically prices for other periods of paid parking.

According to the survey, 69% of respondents opposed the plan. However, some 13% were completely satisfied with it.

The head of the Armenian office of Gallup International Association Aram Navasardyan presented at a press conference today also the results of the poll conducted among downtown residents, saying some 55% of them were opposed to the plan and 15.4% were for it.

Some 60% of motorists were extremely dissatisfied with the plant, while 13% had a favorable opinion of it.

Paid parking prices for 2024 will be determined at a regular session of the Yerevan Council of Elders (municipal assembly), scheduled for December 26.

Municipality spokesman Hayk Kostanyan said earlier the city is divided into two A and B zones. The zone A covers the areas around Surb Grigor Lusavorich Cathedral, Aghatangegos, Khanjyan, Alek Manukyan, Charents, Koryun, Abovyan, Isaakyan, Moskovyan, Saryan and Leo streets- in total about 40 streets and avenues. According to him, the following rates are planned to be applied there:

300 drams - for 1 hour

2,000 drams - for 1 day

5,000 drams - for 1 week

18,000 drams - for 1 month

160,000 - for 1 year

Zone B covers the Kentron administrative district (except for zone A) and Arabkir district.

200 drams - for 1 hour

1 000 drams - for 1 day

2,000 drams - for 1 week

4,000 drams - for 1 month

24,000 - for 1 year

Now paid parking on so-called "red lines" costs 100 drams for 1 hour, 500 drams for a day, 1,000 drams for a week, 5,000 drams for a month and 12,000 drams for a year. ($1 is AMD 405.95). --0--
