Ministry assessing damage caused by hailstorms

The ministry of agriculture is assessing the damage caused by severe hailstorms over the weekend in Armenia, deputy minister of agriculture Robert Makaryan told a news conference today.

YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. The ministry of agriculture is assessing the damage caused by severe hailstorms over the weekend in Armenia, deputy minister of agriculture Robert Makaryan told a news conference today.
On Saturday and Sunday, torrential thunderstorms with hail affected some regions of Armenia and Yerevan. The calamity is said to have caused serious damages to apricot and apple orchards, vineyards and crops. According to weather forecasts, Armenia will be affected by the cyclone up to June 10 inclusive.
"For the time being I can not speak about the size of the damage caused by hails. I can say that the greatest damage was caused to the Armavir region," the deputy minister said.
Makaryan said that a special commission is currently evaluating the damage and will publicize the findings later.-0-
