YEREVAN, January 30. /ARKA/. Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Armenian Embassy in China are in touch with the Chinese government and other partner countries, as well as with their embassies regarding the evacuation of their citizens, Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts said at a meeting with  Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Tieng Erlun today.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the two men discussed the situation surrounding the spread of a new type of coronavirus in China.

Erlun emphasized the willingness of the Chinese side to continue close cooperation with the Armenian government in order to solve all kinds of problems associated with the spread of coronavirus. At the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the problems faced by the citizens of Armenia who are in the Hubei province of China, as well as the steps taken to resolve them.

Adonts said that the Armenian Embassy in China was in constant contact with more than 400 Armenian citizens currently in China, who are registered with the Armenian embassy. He said seven of them are currently in the province of Hubei.

He said the Armenian Embassy is also taking measures to solve the problems that have arisen for Armenian citizens.

Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that two Chinese citizens were hospitalized in Yerevan with suspected coronavirus. According to Liana Torosyan, a senior official from the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one of the Chinese travelers showed no symptoms of any virus while the other only had a mild fever.

According to media reports, the World Health Organization (WHO) called for an Emergency Committee meeting on Thursday to determine whether the coronavirus constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.

The committee will consider issuing a global alarm -- as the death toll from the fast-spreading virus has reached 170 -- representing a 38 percent increase in deaths in the past 24 hours. -0-
