The Armenian government intends to cut New Year holidays.
YEREVAN, December 13. /ARKA/. The Armenian government intends to cut New Year holidays.
The government-proposed amendments to the law on holidays and memorable days will be discussed at the next cabinet meeting on Thursday and then they will be put on the National Assembly’s floor.
The decision will come into force on June 1, 2018, if approved by the parliament.
The government proposes to consider January 3, 4 and 5 non-business days.
“Under the labor code, the minimum duration of an annual vacation in Armenia is 28 consecutive days, when the job is preserved and the average salary is paid,” the government says justifying its initiative.
“If we add 15 non-business days – national holidays and memorable days, we will have 43 paid off-days a year.”
The government points out the United States for comparison, where working people have no paid leave at all, with the exception of 10 non-work days – national holidays.
In Brazil people have 30 days plus 11 non-business days for marking national holidays, in Poland the paid leave lasts 26 days, and in Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Luxembourg and Sweden 25 days.
Paid off-days in Armenia are more than in a number of developed and developing countries. -0--
