Pashinyan calls for tighter control on observing safety requirements
YEREVAN, June 2. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today that despite a string of preventive measures enforced by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus, the number of daily confirmed Covid-19 cases does not reduce.

According to official data, 517 people have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, raising the total number to date to 10,009. The Ministry of Health said that nineteen people died from the disease in one day, raising the death toll to 158. Health authorities also said that a total of 3,427 patients have recovered from the disease.

Pashinyan spoke today remotely at a recurrent meeting of a government task force set up to enforce the state of emergency that was declared on March 16 to stop the spread of the infection and was later extended until June 13.

Health Minister Arsen Torosyan spoke about the measures conducted to monitor compliance with the safety requirements imposed by the task force. The meeting participants also touched upon the effectiveness of "raids" conducted in administrative districts of Yerevan to find out whether stores and other small businesses comply with safety requirements.

During the exchange of thoughts on follow-up actions, a number of comments were presented, the overwhelming majority of which came down to proposals for the maximum tightening of supervisory measures.

Pashinyan, summing up the meeting, said that the authorities are moving forward, guided by the logic of tightening control over compliance with the rules.

"Serious work must be done to increase discipline in observing the rules established by the task force and prevent the organization of any kind of public events," he stressed.

The Prime Minister instructed the heads of state oversight bodies to strictly monitor compliance with preventive norms, the organization of various public events, as well as periodically report to him on the progress of work and its results.

The number of infections and deaths  has been growing  since the government dismantled a nationwide lockdown, allowing virtually all sectors of the Armenian economy to reopen. Some restrictions are still in force such as wearing masks and gloves, which is mandatory in every indoor public space and some outdoor spaces as well.-0-
