YEREVAN, March 27. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan suggested today that alternative sources of renewable energy be found for rural settlements, which are not connected to the natural gas networks.
Speaking in a parliament Q&A session, he said millions of drams were invested in connecting hundreds of communities across the country to the natural gas networks, but they use gas worth several hundred thousand drams only because households use gas to cook food and make coffee but not to heat their homes in winter or run businesses.
According to him, as a result capital investments in the network are included in the gas price, but because of low consumption it is impossible to return the invested money.
"Now is the 21st century, and natural gas is not the only source of energy. I suggest developing alternative sources of energy for villages, not connected to the network because it is cheaper and is a strategic investment," said Pashinyan. -0-
