YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today that the major setback of his government in 2019 was the failure to bring back the money that was stolen from the people by top officials of previous governments.

“I must admit that we have failures in this matter. These failures have objective and subjective reasons, despite the fact that, purely statistically, the Special Investigative Service have managed to recover 7 times more of stolen government funds in 2019 than throughout its  existence,” Pashinyan said Wednesday in parliament, when presenting a report on the execution of the government's 2019 plan of actions.

According to Pashinyan, the same can be said about the National Security Service, the Investigative Committee and the Police. "They have increased the amount of funds returned to the state budget 10 times. Nevertheless, I believe that we have setbacks in  the fight against corruption," the prime minister said.

According to Pashinyan, these failures consist of several layers and are mainly due to problems in the country's judicial system.

“I want to say with confidence that in our judicial system there are not only loyal and highly qualified professionals, but also traitors. This is a serious problem for us,” he said. At the same time, the Prime Minister said that the authorities did not destroy the judicial system just because of those  who honestly carry out their duty.

“I want to say that although there are no concrete results, I am 100% sure that as a result of the ongoing investigations, the corruption system that had been operating in Armenia for many years with all its branches, persons, mechanisms and turnover will be fully identified. All corrupt officials will bear responsibility and return the loot, "Pashinyan assured. - 0--
