YEREVAN, August 4. /ARKA/. Problems with paying for travel on Yerevan public transport are caused by using expired and other people's tickets. This was stated by Deputy Mayor of the capital Suren Grigoryan.

"Problems arise because citizens "pay" for travel with expired tickets, and if the ticket does not pass through the validators, they place all the blame on the system, while it is working properly," Grigoryan noted at a press conference on Monday.

According to him, citizens thereby create an imitation - they say that they wanted to pay, but the system did not work.

"Many citizens also do not know that they cannot use the travel ticket of their relative who has a preferential status," Grigoryan said.

Speaking about the activities of instructors in Yerevan public transport, the vice-mayor said that they do not aim to fine citizens, but to ensure that fares are paid properly.

“Instructors in Yerevan public transport are equipped with the appropriate equipment, which will enable them to check whether a citizen has actually paid for their fare or not. We are not trying to solve the issue of collecting money through fines, we just want citizens to pay for their fare at the established rate,” Grigoryan emphasized.

On the unified ticket system

Since February 1, 2025, a unified ticket system has been fully operational in Yerevan, eliminating cash payments on buses, trolleybuses and the metro. There are several payment options - paper tickets with a QR code (until August 1, they can be purchased from TelCell terminals), the TelCell Wallet mobile application, bank cards and permanent plastic travel cards.
