YEREVAN, December 23. /ARKA/. The governing board of Armenia's National Academy of Sciences has elected today Robert Ghazaryan as director of the affiliated Institute of Oriental Studies.

Robert Ghazaryan was born in 1976 in Yerevan. In 2001 he graduated from the Faculty of History and Geography of the Armenian State Pedagogical University.

In 2005 he received the PhD degree. Ghazaryan's field of research comprises the history of the Ancient East, the ancient period of the history of Armenia, the period of the Middle and Late Bronze Age of the Armenian Highlands and Asia Minor. He is the author of 4 books and 31 articles.

Ghazaryan has been working at the Institute of Oriental Studies since 2005. In 2013-2020 he served as deputy director and as acting director since September 15, 2020.

He is the executive secretary of the electronic version of the English-language periodical of the National Academy of Sciences "Fundamentals of Armenian Studies" and since 2014 - deputy editor-in-chief of the collection of the Institute of Oriental Studies "Countries and Peoples of the Near and Middle East."

Ghazaryan is a member of the Association of Historians of Armenia. He has replaced Ruben Safrastyan who resigned in summer. -0-
