Secondary school curricula in Armenia to be streamlined
YEREVAN, August 30. /ARKA/. Starting September 1, 2020, a pilot program will be launched to streamline secondary school curricula, Arevik Anapiosyan, a deputy minister of education, science, culture and sports, told a press conference on Friday.

She said the pilot program will be launched in one of the regions of Armenia, either in Tavush or Shirak. According to her, the idea is to reduce the number of subjects taught at school by combining similar topics.  According to Anapiosyan, concurrently teachers will have to be retrained.

"We intend to introduce the new educational system before  2023. It all depends on the retraining of teachers, as well as the outcome of the pilot program," she said. The deputy minister emphasized that the innovation will not result in teacher layoffs.

Anapiosyan said an opportunity for an intermediate stage will be provided to students for the transition to the new program.

According to the deputy minister, the reform will allow schools to more freely manage their curricula in accordance with the new criteria. The most important condition will remain only the wider use of practical classes. -0-
