YEREVAN, January 10. /ARKA/. About 600 people with acute respiratory diseases and flu have been hospitalized throughout Armenia as of January 10, the health ministry said today, blaming the increased numbers on active contacts among people during the New Year and Christmas holidays.

‘Daily monitoring showed that the disease is especially common among young children. The majority of these 600 patients are children under 2 years old,’ it said.

The ministry said also there are patients with lung and bronchitis inflammation being treated in medical institutions. Their condition is assessed as mild and moderate with positive dynamics. It said there are no patients with symptoms of severe pneumonia caused by after-flu complications.

The ministry recalled that in 2015 and 2016, almost 1000-1500 people used to apply to medical facilities with acute respiratory infections. Medical facilities of the country are provided with antiviral drugs that provide full treatment for acute respiratory infections and influenza, it said.

According to the findings of laboratory tests conducted since November 2017, A and B types of influenza, as well as other respiratory infections (rhinoviruses, poxviruses, parainfluenza and respiratory viruses) are spread in Armenia. Vulnerable groups for these viruses are people of all ages, and especially young children.

The ministry said the best way to avoid the diseases is to exclude contact with all infected persons. It encouraged the infected citizens not to leave home, do not send sick children to schools or kindergartens and consult a doctor and follow their advice as soon as possible. -0-
