State Service for Food Safety of Armenia can use a new legislative instrument giving a right to withdraw from the market overdue and doubtful food products, said the Head of the Service on Thursday Abram Bakhchagyulyan in the press-conference.
YEREVAN, March 15. /ARKA/. State Service for Food Safety of Armenia can use a new legislative instrument giving a right to withdraw from the market overdue and doubtful food products, said the Head of the Service on Thursday Abram Bakhchagyulyan in the press-conference.
He said that relevant amendments in the law “On safety of food products” have been adopted and in ten days the Service can use the instrument on withdrawing the products from the market.
Emphasizing the importance of the given innovation, Bakhchagyulyan said that penalties for the companies making violations not always allow to fully solve this problem with the protection of the consumers from low quality products.
State Commission on the Protection of Economic Competitiveness of Armenia in 2011 appointed fines in the amount of 375 million drams vs. 36.5 million drams in 2010.
Bakhchagyulyan said that amendments in the law envisage also that the Service should regulate the quality and safety of bio-active food supplements.
He said that the issue of development of methodology for risk assessment related to the import of food products is still under discussion. It allows to assess the quality and safety of the product directly at customs point, and in case it is necessary, send it to laboratory expertise. –0-
