A total of ten cases of maternal deaths were reported in Armenia in the first 11 months of 2016, Deputy Health Minister Sergey Khachatryan said today.
YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/. A total of ten cases of maternal deaths were reported in Armenia in the first 11 months of 2016, Deputy Health Minister Sergey Khachatryan said today. In his words, in seven cases the cause of death were diseases, not associated with pregnancy, such as kidney failure, tuberculosis intoxication and rupture of brain vessels.
In the other three cases, the cause of death was postpartum hemorrhage and hemorrhagic shock," - Khachatryan said.
According to him, these three cases are under investigation now to determine the degree of guilt of the medical staff.
He said the maternal mortality rate has decreased in recent years – from 40.3 per 100,000 births in 1999-2001 to 18/100,000 births now. For comparison, last year five women died in childbirth, but in all cases, the death was caused by postpartum complications ", - Khachatryan said. -0-
