YEREVAN, June 15. /ARKA/. Gagik Tsarukyan, a well-known businessman and the leader of the Prosperous Armenia party and faction in the Armenian National Assembly, left the building of the National Security Service, Sunday night after he was grilled there for more than nine hours.

He did not comment on which criminal case he was invited to the National Security Service. He just repeated that all these actions and criminal cases are political persecution against him. He promised to answer the remaining questions later by making a statement.

Earlier that day, national security officers raided Tsarukyan’s mansion in the Arinj community (Kotayk province) and carried out a search there. Speaking to the people gathered outside of his house, the he said that the criminal cases brought against him and his associates were fabricated and had obvious political implications. Tsarukyan is sure that the reason is his criticism of the current government of Armenia, which, in his opinion, for two years of activity failed to implement economic reforms, and now has failed the fight against the coronavirus.

Then Tsarukyan was summoned for questioning by the National Security Service. A rally began in front of the National Security Service building in Yerevan with the participation of the party’s MPs and other people from Tsarukyan’s circle.

The National Security Service made a number of statements throughout the day. Reported cases of illegal entrepreneurial activity in which Tsarukyan was involved, resulting in damage to the state on a particularly large scale, the exposure of his party’s bribe scheme in the 2017 parliamentary elections. Information was also published on the identification of a criminal scheme for the company "New", engaged in the operation of Arinj Mall.

Law enforcement officers repeatedly called on his supporters to keep social distance, but in vain. According to police, more than 100 protesters were taken to the police station for defying the rules set by the state of emergency commandant to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country. -0-
