YEREVAN, November 9. /ARKA/. The Armenian government decided today to merge two state-run print media - the Armenian-language newspaper ‘Hayastani Hanrapetutyun’ (Republic of Armenia) and the Russian-language newspaper Respublika Armenia (Republic of Armenia) with the state news agency Armenpress.
According to the government, the need to combine the three media is prompted by the fact that their functions very often overlap.
"The merger will enable us to concentrate resources for a more efficient organization of work, save budget funds and streamline duplicating functions," the government's decision says.
After the merger is legally registered, Armenpress will be renamed into State News Agency Armenpress.
Armenpress is the oldest information agency in Armenia, originating from the Armenian Telegraph Agency, established on December 18, 1918 by the First Armenian Republic (1918-1920). --0-
