YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/. The Council of Elders of Yerevan (legislative assembly) approved today the release of $1.65 million for the construction of a new building for Erebuni Archaeological Museum in the Armenian capital city.

The memorandum of intent had been signed between the IDeA Foundation (Initiatives for the Development of Armenia), the Erebuni Museum, the Municipality of Yerevan and the John and Sosi Balyan Foundation in April 5, 2019.

On October 3, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and an American-Armenian entrepreneur John Balyan signed an agreement whereby the foundation was to release funds for the construction of a new building for the museum.

The new building will be equipped with modern innovative technology. In the exhibition halls, visitors will be able to virtually track different periods of the history of Yerevan. The new building will also have scientific laboratories.

According to the agreement, signed between the Yerevan Municipality and the John and Sosi Balyan Foundation, $1.3 million will be spent on the construction of the building.

The Erebuni Archaeological Museum is located on Arin-Berd Hill, next to the ruins of the Urartian fortress. It has on display numerous exhibits discovered during the excavations of the Erebuni fortress and the Urartian city of Teishebaini in 1950-1959. The museum opened in 1968 on the 2700th anniversary of the foundation of the city of Erebuni. --0—
