Yerevan municipality puts restrictions on some entertainment and leisure facilities
YEREVAN, September 30. /ARKA/. The Yerevan Municipality has moved to restrict the activity of some leisure and entertainment facilities in Yerevan since September 26, citing the law On Trade and Services.

The press service of the Municipality said today in a press release that these facilities, located on the ground floors of apartment buildings in the capital and growing like mushrooms, have been a real headache for citizens for decades.

Hovik Safaryan, head of the Trade and Services Department at the Yerevan Municipality, said an analysis of many complaints of residents shows that entertainment facilities located on the first floors of apartment buildings, interfere with the rest of citizens and often cause criminal situations, especially at night hours.

He said the list of entertainment and leisure facilities subject to restrictions includes disco and  karaoke clubs, strip clubs and saunas.

He said entertainment facilities located in or under multi-apartment buildings, in  central and local government buildings, as well as in medical, educational and historical-cultural institutions, are removed by force of law from these territories.

According to police, over  the first 9 months of this year, some 563 offenses were recorded in such facilities.

According to Safaryan, taking into account the rights of economic entities, they are given the opportunity to relocate to a certain distance from these buildings. He said the Council of Elders of Yerevan is preparing a draft decision, which proposes that such facilities must be located at least 100 meters away from the above-mentioned buildings.  -0-
