YEREVAN, May 3. /ARKA/. The Yerevan Municipality confirmed today that it has saved on the repair of kindergartens and plans to spend the saved money on acquisition of new garbage trucks.
This decision angered a member of the Council of Elders David Khazhakyan from the Luys faction, who wrote in a Facebook post that the municipality will spend a total of 243 million drams on acquisition of garbage trucks.
However, a press secretary of the Mayor’s Office, Hakob Karapetyan, retaliated by saying that the money for acquisition of garbage trucks in the amount of 236 million drams became available after international donors agreed to provide financing for the repair of about 30 kindergartens in the capital city. He said as many kindergartens will be repaired as originally planned.
The municipality has also decided to fine Sanitek waste management company to the tune of 26 million drams ($54,100) for negligence and non-performance of its contractual obligations.
In July and August 2018, Sanitek was fined for violating the clauses of the contract with the mayor's office and was also warned that in case of non-provision of services in accordance with the contract, more stringent measures would be applied against it. In April this year it was fined again in the amount of 13 million drams ($26,817) . -0-
