YEREVAN, August 5. /ARКА/. The public transportation system of Armenia's capital Yerevan will be replenished in October with 211 new China-made busues which will operate 16-17 new bus routes, the press secretary of the Yerevan Municipality Hakob Karapetyan told Armenpress news agency.

He said that according to the legal regulation, every eighth vehicle of the public transport fleet must remain in reserve.

'This means that about 30 out of 211 new buses will be in reserve and the rest- 180 buses- will operate 16-17 new bus routes,' Karapetyan said.

He also said that by the time of buses' arrival, the municipality is to create a single electronic fare payment system.

In his words, the system will allow passengers to pay their fares by specials cards, which will need to be purchased in advance, or by bank cards.

'Similar systems operate in a number of European cities, and passengers will have no longer to hand over a bill or a coin to the bus driver,” he said.

Currently, there are 900 minibuses transporting passengers in the city. Under a new public transport scheme, there will be 845 buses and 101 trolleybuses. -0-
