YEREVAN, February 14. /ARKA/. The Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) will soon acquire one of the leading Armenian clinics - the Mikaelyan Institute of Surgery. A corresponding draft decision is to be discussed by the government at its session on February 15.
The YSMU will acquire 90.5% of the shares of the clinic (152,808 ordinary shares) for 2.5 billion drams (about $5.2 million). The face value of a share is 1000 drams (about $2).
The YSMU is said to invest $4 million in the clinic’s improvement to double the area for educational, scientific, clinical and other purposes.
The decision to purchase the clinic was prompted by the university's strategy to admit more foreign students, increase the salaries of the faculty (2.8 times), also increase the profit from scientific activity to 730 million drams by 2022 and make the university one of the 100 best universities in the world.
To achieve these goals the university will attract credit resources. In the event of the successful completion of the transaction, the university's revenue is expected to grow to 26.6 billion drams in 2021-2022, up from 12.2 billion drams in 2016-2017.
The Mikaelyan Institute of Surgery was founded in 1974 and is one of the largest medical centers in Armenia. -0-
