Armenia turns down offer to host 2027 CIS Games
YEREVAN, 24 May. /ARKA/. Armenia will not host the 2027 CIS Games, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Sport Karen Giloyan said as he responded to an offer from the CIS Council of Physical Culture and Sports on Friday.
Giloyan explained that a number of other international sports events are scheduled to be held in Armenia in 2027, including the European Artistic Gymnastics Championship, the World Weightlifting Championship, and the Pan-Armenian Games. Additionally, Armenia will also host the 2027 Francophone Games.
The Press Service of the Ministry stated, however, that Armenia might discuss hosting the next edition of the Games, scheduled for 2029.
The CIS Games is a biennial multi-sports event first held in 2021 in Russia. It welcomes athletes from the CIS, a regional organization that includes most of the former Soviet Union members, as well as from other countries.
