Armenia welcomes Men Chess Team

Armenian men chess team was greeted at home today with triumph after cementing its reputation as a chess superpower. The men have won gold at the Chess Olympiad after defeating Hungary 2.5-1.5 in the final round of the World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul.
YEREVAN, September 10. / ARKA /. Armenian men chess team was greeted at home today with triumph after cementing its reputation as a chess superpower. The men have won gold at the Chess Olympiad after defeating Hungary 2.5-1.5 in the final round of the World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul.
The chess players were greeted at Zvartnots airport by president Serzh Sargsyan, who is also chairman of the Chess Federation of Armenia.
A festive event will be held in honor of the winners at Freedom Square. A special reception will be held at the presidential palace. Armenian chess players scored 19 points, as much as Russia, but surpassed it by additional indicators.
Earlier Armenian male chess team won the World Chess Olympics in 2006 in Turin and in 2008 in Dresden. They ranked also third in this prestigious tournament in 1992, 2002 and 2004. In 2011, the Armenian team won the World Team Championship. -0-
