YEREVAN, May 23 /ARKA/. The UEFA may disqualify the Republican Stadium in Yerevan, Artur Vanetsyan the director of the National Security Service, who is also president of the Football Federation of Armenia, said during a government meeting today.
In his words, UEFA may disqualify the stadium because it does not meet international requirements. He said the new stadium, which needs to be built, will include also 10-15 hectares of green areas.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in turn it is necessary to find a good solution for proportionate development, including the proximity of the to-be stadium to the airport. He said there are ideas, for example, that it should be located near the North-South highway. He said according to some estimates, the construction of a new stadium will require about $100 million.
The Prime Minister also inquired about the possibility of reconstructing the Hrazdan Stadium. Vanetsyan said it will require huge investments. He added that even after a major reconstruction the Hrazdan Stadium may not qualify for UEFA safety requirements – such as availability of several access roads and the possibility of complete evacuation of the stadium in 15-20 minutes.
The head of the Town Planning Committee Vahagn Vermishyan noted that Chinese investors are interested in building a stadium in Armenia. -0-
