YEREVAN, September 22. /ARKA/. The Armenian delegation took part in the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference, which took place from September 15 to 19 in Vienna.

Delegates from the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) presented the strategic priorities of Armenia, focusing on extending the life of the current nuclear power plant, plans for the construction of new nuclear units, and upholding the highest safety standards.

Additionally, programs that are being implemented in collaboration with the IAEA and those planned for the upcoming years were discussed, including expert missions and initiatives for seismic safety assessments, as reported on the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) website.

Throughout the session, the Armenian delegation engaged in several bilateral meetings, highlighting the significance of enhancing international cooperation, sharing expertise, and reinforcing regional nuclear safety.

"Armenia's participation in the General Conference once again highlighted the nation's dedication to the peaceful and secure utilization of nuclear energy, energy independence, and sustainable development. The ANPP, as a vital component of Armenia's energy framework, continues to act as a dependable partner and a crucial platform for international collaboration," stated the ANPP press service.

The IAEA General Conference is  one of the most significant annual gatherings in the realm of nuclear energy and safety, convening representatives from Member States to address global challenges, explore innovative solutions, and discuss opportunities for international collaboration.

The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, which is the sole facility of its kind in the South Caucasus region, is situated near the town of Metsamor, roughly 30 km to the west of Yerevan. This plant is a significant source of electricity for the country, contributing up to 40% of its total energy output. Its operational lifespan has been extended until 2026, with efforts currently in progress to prolong it for an additional decade.-0-
