Armenia considers imposing restrictions on solar energy development
YEREVAN, July 27. /ARKA/. High solar energy development rate in Armenia is starting to create problems, Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Gnel Sanosyan said on Wednesday.
Presenting his ministry’s draft budget for 2024 to a parliamentary committee, Sanosyan said some experts suggest imposing a set of restrictions on solar energy.
‘At first glance this idea may cause surprise, but in general it is justified from the point of view of management, otherwise the large share of solar energy in the grid may cause certain problems regarding active and passive energy ratios," he said.
He explained that in such a case, power will be generated but will not reach consumers, so the omnipresent placement of solar panels is not a solution to existing issues in the energy sector.
Earlier, in April this year, Sanosyan said that 205 solar power plants operating in Armenia provided 450 MW of power generation capacity, which is more than the capacity of the Metsamor NPP (405 MW).
Solar power plants, according to statistics, accounted for about 3% of the country's total energy output in January-March 2023 (21.5 million kWh). --0--
