Armenia to ban imports of GMOs
YEREVAN, November 15. /ARKA/. Importation of genetically modified seeds or means of their reproduction to Armenia will be banned if a set of amendments to the Law on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and to a number of related laws will go through the parliament, which discussed today them in the first reading.
Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said that the amendments would ban the importation, use, storage, transportation and other activities with genetically modified organisms.
The amendments provide for an exception for the use of GMOs in isolated systems of research centers for experimental and demonstration purposes. According to the minister, the essence of this law is to protect the environment. -0-
