YEREVAN, July 7. /ARKA/. The Armenian National Assembly has passed today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to the law On Medical Care and Servicing the Population, which are designed to regulate the activities of reference laboratories. The amendments were endorsed by 58 lawmakers.

Armenian Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said that the amendments call for regulation of all the activities of reference laboratories in Armenia and delegating the right to make decisions to relevant agencies in cases of more complex and controversial issues.

"The current law does not set boundaries for the activities of reference laboratories, as well as a basis for their termination," she said.

With that in mind, Avanesyan said, the package of changes will establish the rights, responsibilities of reference laboratories, the scope of current and reference functions, the basis for their funding, etc. -0-
