IAEA ready to provide comprehensive assistance to Armenia

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA ) is ready to provide comprehensive expertise and technical assistance to Armenia in the field of nuclear energy,  IAEA Acting Director General Cornel Feruta said at a meeting with Suren Papikyan, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

YEREVAN, September 18. /ARKA/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA ) is ready to provide comprehensive expertise and technical assistance to Armenia in the field of nuclear energy,  IAEA Acting Director General Cornel Feruta said at a meeting with Suren Papikyan, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

According to the press service of the ministry, during a conversation in Vienna, Austria, Feruta expressed confidence that cooperation with Armenia would be consistent. He was quoted as saying that  IAEA will make every effort to ensure the safe operation of nuclear power plants in those countries where they operate.

The minister, in turn, noted that Armenia, as a country with a nuclear power plant, considers cooperation with the IAEA important. He expressed satisfaction with the assistance provided by the agency to Armenia.

Accompanied by Papikyan, Feruta visited the Armenian pavilion that opened on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the IAEA

Also during the session, the minister met with the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Lassina Zerbo. Papikyan praised the role and efforts of the organization, assuring that Armenia is ready to make maximum efforts to expand and deepen cooperation with it.

Zerbo emphasized that Armenia is actively participating in technical and political programs under the auspices of the CTBTO.

Suren Papikyan is in Vienna to participate in the 63rd session of the IAEA. --0--
