YEREVAN, October 30. / ARKA /. There is no alternative to widespread use of remote banking services in Armenia, but this will take time, Ameriabank’s retail banking director, Arman Barseghyan, said today.

Speaking at a discussion on the expansion of remote banking services in Armenia, he said banking technologies have always been a major development factor and the banks in Armenia are no exception.
Barseghyan said remote services in Armenia consist of processing systems, ATMs, online banking, mobile banking and phone banking.

"These are the systems that do not require a customer to visit the bank, ensuring convenience, accessibility and time saving. These systems increase the efficiency of the banks themselves creating more favorable conditions for clients in terms of rates and taxes," he said.

In his words, widespread use of remote banking services in Armenia depends primarily on the welfare of the population. Now, these services are not available to a certain segment of the population, especially outside the capital city where the level of use of Internet, smartphones and simple banking services is still very low.

According to him, in Yerevan the number of users of online banking is growing constantly and rapidly. ‘Widespread use of remote services in Armenia has no alternative, as in any case the new generation will be using them, but that will take some time," Barseghyan said.

At the same time, Barseghyan noted that alongside the development of banking technologies, the risks are growing as well, in particular, the risk of hacker attacks. However, according to him, online fraud is very low in Armenia and actually all the banks are equipped with secure protection.

According to an Ameria study of 21 banks in Armenia, only three banks do not offer online banking services for individuals. A survey conducted in 11 cities shows that the proportion of users of online banking in 2014 stood at 2% compared to 1.3% in 2013.

Some 17.5% of Ameriabank’s individual customers at least once used online banking service, while active users stood at 3.5%. Of corporate clients 24.2% use online banking services. -0-
