Some $160m will be allocated for re-extension of service life of ANPP
YEREVAN, 9 January. /ARKA/. The Armenian government will allocate $160 million for the repeated prolongation of the operation term of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan said at a press conference on Thursday.
He noted that the work on this programme is being successfully implemented.
The Armenian authorities are discussing not only Russian and American proposals for the construction of a new NPP, but also a number of others, said David Khudatyan.
He said both financial and economic considerations will be taken into account, as well as the possible deadlines for commissioning the NPP, He added that there is no final decision yet.
Khudatyan also noted that an organization has been created in the country to study the applications, as well as to finally determine the model of the new NPP and oversee the construction work.
The Armenian NPP, the only one in the South Caucasus region, is located near the town of Metsamor, about 30 kilometres west of Yerevan. The plant is one of the main sources of electricity in the country, providing up to 40 per cent of the total generation. Its service life has been extended until 2026, and work is underway to re-extend it for another 10 years. -0-
