YEREVAN June 1. /ARКА/. The temporary suspension of  the visa-free travels between Armenia and Iran came to an end on May 31,  the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

According to the Armenian-Iranian memorandum on the abolition of entry visas, signed on June 5, 2016, citizens of Armenia and Iran can enter, transit and stay without entry visas on the territory of the other side for up to 90 days in a 180-day period. The memorandum was temporary suspended  on March 9, 2020 in connection with the spread of coronavirus
.
“From June 1, 2020, Iranian citizens with ordinary passports have the right to enter Armenia without  entry visas,” the ministry said.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry reminded that the state of emergency is in force in Armenia until June 13, 2020, and the restrictions on entry and exit would remain in force until the end of this period.  The ministry called  on Armenian citizens to plan visits to Iran only in case of emergency.

A 30-day state of emergency to curb the spread of coronavirus was declared in Armenia on March 16 and restrictions were imposed on free movement of citizens. The government banned also some types of economic activity. On April 13, the government extended the state of emergency for another month and on May 4 it lifted the ban on almost all types of economic activity and the free movement of citizens, except for public transport. On May 14, the government has again extended the state of emergency for another 30 days.

However, despite the extension, public transport, preschools, trading centers, restaurants and gyms have reopened starting from May 18, and  wearing of masks has become  mandatory in public spaces.

Armenia's confirmed Covid-19 cases have grown to 8,676 over the past 24 hours. According to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of 9,282 cases of coronavirus were confirmed as of today morning. The death toll has reached 131. - 0--
