WB may assist Armenia in expanding tourism clusters in the country

YEREVAN, 6 December. /ARKA/. Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan discussed on Friday with World Bank Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist Tawadzwa Dube the implementation of a number of projects, the press service of the Ministry of Economy reported.

In particular, they touched upon the Local Economy and Infrastructure Development Programme (LEIDP) and the Tourism and Regional Infrastructure Improvement Programme (TRIP).

They discussed the details of the programmes, their financial components, the framework of priority actions and possible implementation deadlines.

The perspectives of the development of tourism industry in Armenia were also touched upon. The possibilities of expanding the tourism clusters with the assistance of the WB were emphasised. In particular, a number of issues related to Gyumri cluster were discussed.

About WB programmes in Armenia

Since the start of its operations in Armenia in 1992, the World Bank has provided about $2.7 billion worth assistance to the country through the International Development Association, International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and trust funds. The WB is currently financing 10 projects in Armenia with a total value of $500 million.

The World Bank is committed to continue to support Armenia's development towards poverty reduction and shared prosperity. -0-
