Yerevan to host UNWTO 38th plenary session

United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will hold its 38th annual plenary session of affiliated members in Yerevan on October 1-4, economy minister Artsvik Minasyan said today before a Cabinet session approved the signing of a relating agreement with UNWTO.
YEREVAN, July 14. /ARKA/. United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will hold its 38th annual plenary session of affiliated members in Yerevan on October 1-4, economy minister Artsvik Minasyan said today before a Cabinet session approved the signing of a relating agreement with UNWTO.
"This event is expected to greatly enhance the standing of Armenia as a tourism country, and we expect it increase the number of foreign tourists visiting our country,” Minasyan said.
According to UNWTO, the plenary session in Yerevan represents an opportunity for affiliate members to meet, discuss, share and interact around a variety of topics, serving as a dynamic space to generate ideas, discuss the latest trends of the sector and work together towards fostering public-private collaboration and promoting good practices in the sector.
This year's session will be held in an innovative format as various social activities will be held before the working sessions, offering to the participants the possibility to explore the Armenian culture. Among others, participants will have a unique chance to discover authentic gastronomy experience by attending the Armenia Wine festival, take a guided tour of Yerevan city or join the national celebration of the International Tourism Day.
According to statistics, in the first quarter the number of tourists visiting Armenia exceeded 252,000 people, which was 8.6% higher than in the same time span of 2015. In 2015 some 1.192 million tourists visited Armenia, by 1% less than in 2014. -- 0-
