ECHR rules that Ramil Safarov's release, who killed Armenian officer in Budapest, was a violation of European Convention
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has announced the ruling in the case of Makuchyan and Minasyan v. Azerbaijan and Hungary, which finds Azerbaijan guilty of violating the European Convention for the release of Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov, who had axed to death Armenian army officer Gurgen Margaryan in Budapest in 2004.

Armenian parliament adopts statement condemning Safarov’s repatriation and pardoning
By a vote of 96 to one the Armenian parliament has adopted today a draft statement condemning the Hungarian authorities for repatriation of Ramil Safarov, an Azeri army Lt., sentenced to a life in prison by an Hungarian court for murdering in 2004 an Armenian colleague Gurgen Margarian.

OSCE Minks Group concerned over consequences of Ramil Safarov’s pardoning
The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group (Ambassadors Robert Bradtke of the United States of America, Igor Popov of the Russian Federation, and Jacques Faure of France) and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, met on September 2 with the Foreign Minister of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, and on September 3 with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, to address recent events in the region and efforts to peacefully resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the OSCE website said on Monday.

Russia on Monday expressed concerns over Azerbaijan’s decision to pardon Ramil Safarov, an Azerbaijani army Lt. convicted by a Hungarian court to life in prison for killing an Armenian colleague. Hungary had sent him back to Azerbaijan to serve his prison sentence where he was pardoned by Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.
