YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. The World Jewelry Confederation (CIBJO) Congress in Yerevan will become a turning point in development of jewelry industry in Armenia, Gagik Gevorgyan, head of the Armenian Jewelers Association, told journalists on Wednesday.

As many as 84 delegates from 25 countries are taking part in the three-day Congress that kicked off today in Yerevan.

Gevorgyan said that the congress is a landmark event for Armenia's jewelry industry, since Armenia will become the world jewelry center for one week and attention of jewellers across the world wil be focused to the country.

In his words, Armenia has a huge untapped capacity in this area, since Armenians are among the best jewelers in the world, though the majority of them work outside Armenia.

«Our goal is to return Armenian jewelers from other countries, but it is necessary to create a favorable environment for them,» he said.

In his opinion, the country's authorities are creating necessary conditions for doing jewelry business here.

He said Meridian free economic zone for jewelers should increase jewelers' confidence in Armenia, since the companies operating in the zone enjoy tax exemption if they create jobs and make investments.

Six companies are already operating in Meridian territory, three of them are enterprises. Young specialists are being trained in the free economic zone as well.

CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri, on his side, said that technical and corporate issues will be discussed at the congress.

He said that Armenian jewelers are in demand in the United States and Europe. --0----
