Ambassador: Swiss businesses interested in Armenian market
YEREVAN, February 10. /ARKA/. Armenia will remain in the focus of Swiss investors in 2017, Swiss ambassador to Armenia Lukas Gasser, told a news conference today, reminding that in 2015 Switzerland was the largest foreign investor in the Armenian economy having invested a total of $90 million in finance, pharmaceuticals, watch-making and metal mining industries.

"Today there are no obstacles between the countries for the implementation of investments. What Armenia needs to do is to improve its recognizability and stability by cutting corruption risks and monopolies,' said Gasser.

He stressed that Armenia has potential in the financial and banking systems, as well as in research and development in the field of information technology and pharmaceuticals.

According to Gasser, Switzerland has been among top 20 investors in Armenia since the latter’s independence and does not intend to give way in 2017.

"Armenia is in the focus of our investors’ interest, and although I can not reveal all the trade secrets, but I can say that the Swiss business is interested in the Armenian market",  Gasser said, adding that Armenian companies operate in Switzerland as well.

Armenian ministry of economic development and investments said earlier it expected foreign direct investment to amount to about $200 million in late 2017. In the first 9 months of 2016, foreign direct investments totaled $92 million. -0-
