Armenia and other EEU members to mark goods with GMOs
YEREVAN, December 26, /ARKA/. Starting from December 26, 2018 all member-countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will have to mark  the products containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

The new requirement is supposed to enable consumers to make a more correct choice of food products, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) said. The manufacturer’s label must have the GMO word printed in large letters next to the single product circulation mark in EEU markets.

The new requirement was developed by the Russian Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor). The document has gone through all the necessary procedures, including public discussions and coordination with all EEU member countries.

It was adopted at a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council in December last year. The EEC gave 12 months to businesses to get prepared for the introduction of the new requirement.

The Technical regulation requires that the GMO mark be applied in a manner that provides easy readability and visibility throughout the shelf life of food products.-0-
