Armenia International Airports ready to invest in Shirak airport’s development

Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said today he will travel Saturday to the second-largest town of Gyumri to discuss a large-scale program designed to boost local tourism industry.

YEREVAN, 26 January. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said today he will travel Saturday to the second-largest town of Gyumri to discuss a large-scale program designed to boost local tourism industry. He also said the Armenia International Airports, a company run by an Argentinean Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian, is ready to invest in the local Shirak airport.
“I will begin my visit to Gyumri with the Shirak airport, where I am scheduled to have a meeting with top executives of Armenia International Airports. We have an agreement with this company on making investments in Shirak airport and we expect an increasing flow of tourists to Gyumri", said Karapetyan.
The head of the Main Civil Aviation Department Sergey Avetisyan refused to say how much the company is going to invest in Shirak airport citing ‘commercial secret.
"We are doing everything possible to increase the number of flights to and from the Shirak and also Zvartnots airports,’ he said.
Currently Armenia has two operating airports – Zvartnots in Yerevan and Shirak in Gyumri, both run by Armenia - International Airports company in accordance with the 30-year concession management agreement signed with the Armenian government in 2001. Armenia - International Airports is owned by Eduardo Eurnekian. -0-
