Armenia’s foreign trade turnover in January 2017 surged by 45.5% from January 2016

Armenia's foreign trade turnover in January 2017 surged by 45.5% when compared to January 2016, amounting  to approximately $358.6 million,  according to the National Statistical Service (NSS).

YEREVAN, March 1. / ARKA /. Armenia's foreign trade turnover in January 2017 surged by 45.5% when compared to January 2016, amounting  to approximately $358.6 million,  according to the National Statistical Service (NSS).

Armenian exports were said to have increased by 35.4% over the same month of 2016 to $121.5 million, while imports grew by 51.4% to $237.2 million. As a result, the negative foreign trade balance amounted to $115.8 million. The foreign trade in FOB prices was worth approximately $79.2 million.

Armenia's foreign trade turnover with several former Soviet republics making the Commonwealth of Independent states (CIS), grew by 61.1% to about $138 5 million (38.6% of the total foreign trade in January 2017);  trade with Russia skyrocketed by almost 61% to $130.5 million; trade with Ukraine grew by 48.1% to  $5.2 million; trade with Belarus soared by 2.7 times to $1.4 million; trade with Kazakhstan increased 22 times to  $311,100  and trade with  Turkmenistan upped by 27.8% to about $541,800.

Armenia’s trade with the EU countries in January 2017 grew by 29.1% from January 2016 to approximately $75.3 million. (21% of the total trade) and trade with other countries grew by 41.8% to $144.8 million (40.4% of the total).

Exports of mineral products grew by 41% to about $43.2 million, exports of finished food upped by 66.2% to about $27.7 million and exports of precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and articles grew by 5.2% to about $14.6 million.

According to official statistics, imports of mineral products upped by 24.7% to about $78.3 million, imports of machinery, equipment and mechanisms upped by 53.3% to $27.6 million and imports of finished food grew by 66.5% to $17.2 million.  ($ 1 - 486.70 drams) -0-
